Default Apparently I'm a leecher. Should I worry?

OK - I'm a noob and I don't know a lot of stuff.

Today, I tried out my first PvP session in the Random Arenas.

During my third battle, I was reported for leeching twice.

I didn't know what leeching was but it sounded nasty, so I asked in the waiting area. I was not pleased with the answer.

During the battle, I had been running around after the bad guys, hitting them hard and casting spells when I could. I was confused, excited and a little out of my depth .... but I was joining in.

Why would someone report me for leeching if I was running about like mad?

What happens now I was reported? Can my account be terminated so I can't PvP anymore? If so, will I get my money back? How can I find out who reported me and ask them why?

As I said, I am a noob. I've been playing PvE several hours every night for a couple of weeks and love it.

This is the first time I've felt bad about Guild Wars.

Am I over-reacting?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. So long as you're not afking and you're doing your job in the team you shouldn't get banned for it.

I haven't heard of anyone being banned for leeching, and even if they did ban you you'd have to be banned a few times before it was permanent. If that happened you wouldn't get your money back. You also wouldn't be able to find out who reported you.

My best advice would be to read up on RA http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Random_Arena & check pvxwiki for some builds. :] Don't worry about the other people.

You really should either be focusing on a martial weapon or focusing on casting spells; do not try to do both... that's something a lot of new players mistakenly do and is frequently mocked.

Ah dude. You are ok. People could have thought you were leeching because in one form of leeching people will join in and hurt the team they are on so the other side wins or they will just not help the team they are on. It is hard to tell the difference between some one new and someone being an a**. Just so you get the idea I will link some wiki pages you should read.

O and your account can never be perm banned from PvP. If you lose your account you don't get your money back. However, you will either be perma banned from the whole game or not banned from one part.

Here is the wiki page on leeching. It refers to what people thought you were doing. I haven't actually read it so I don't know what it says. I just know what the term means from playing the game. I do know it will refer to a bunch of different types of leeching. Like when people join alliance battles or jade quarry and just afk for faction.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Leeching

Being new to the game doesn't mean you are doing something wrong or doing something
that can get you banned. People report because they can most of the time. However, after racking up so many points against you by being reported. Anet has implemented a system to stop you from "leeching" or doing whatever it is for a short period. I am not saying I agree with it or not but I will link it for you to read as well. It is called the dishonorable system and gives you the dishonorable hex that disallows you from PvPing for I believe 30 minutes or an hour or something like that.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Disho...mbatant_System

Hmm what else can help you?...Maybe the PvP section of wiki can. I will link that as well so you can read each type of PvP and see which kind you want to play.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Pvp

As a side note and where I will stop typing my long post. There is an unofficial wiki that will have articles on each of these things as well. They should say close to or the exact same thing worded differently. However, if you prefer that sight here is a link and just search the site for anything you need info on.

People are probably just mad they got a newbie on their team, and reported you for leeching out of spite.

Just ignore it, if they don't like the team they can leave.

The worst thing that will happen, and only if you are reported enough times during a time period, is that you will be locked out of joining any pvp battle for like 5 or 10 minutes (the time you are locked out increases if you continually get reported tho).

But the feature is meant to report people (or bots) who enter and sit afk, in hopes of getting rewards for their team's work.

Thanks for all your great replies.

I am re-assured. One of the reasons I chose GW over WoW is because I heard that WoW players were pretty immature. That may be unfair, but I must say that I am very pleased with the GW gang so far.

I'm surprised that you can be reported fo leeching because of your build. (That's what skills you have in your skill bar isn't it?) Surely, that's a matter of personal preference. Anyway, I only had the skills I'd been given up to that point and I was trying to use all of five or six of them.

No matter! I wish there was an arena just for noobs so we can practise without upsetting the ubermensch.

Anyway, I'll carry on PvP-ing and just do my best. I might not be any good but I'm keen! If you see me in the arena, take pity on me as I try to raise the living and kill the already dead. And if I attack our team by mistake, it's because, as Elton almost said "You see I've forgotten if they're red or they're blue."

Thanks again.

There are arenas for lower level plays you just didn't go to them. Ascalon Arena. Shiverpeak Arena. Shing Jea Arena. Hmm any others that i can think of....Nope. They have level caps on them so once you hit xx level you can no longer enter matches in them. However, some of the arenas got closed (see fort koga) but not sure if they all did. As I never actually bothered to play in any of them cause I was lazy and just maxed level as fast as possible.

I did try Ascalon Arena (I'm PvE-ing post-Searing Ascalon at the moment). I waited for twenty or thirty minutes but there was never enough people for a battle. I went back later and it was the same. I did spend the time chatting to a beautiful 17 year old girl who, knowing the world as I do, was probably neither beautiful, 17 or a girl. But whatever she was, she was amusing.

Anyway, I digress.

Is there any one-on-one action? (And I'm not talking about the 17 year old again.) I mean 1v1 PvP, so you can just fight a mate online. If not, can you do it by using three henchmen each for a 4v4 battle? And can you actually choose who you fight against if you want to just fight your mates?

It would be fun to practise with a pal. Maybe not for faction points (or whatever they are) but just for fun and giggles.

EDIT: I see from the Wiki that there used to be Hero Arenas just for 1v1 battles with 3 heroes each. It's a shame they removed them.

Someone needs to get in-game footage of people blatantly abusing the report feature. ArenaNet needs to step up to their game and stop the report abuse bullshit.

Yes, you can scrimmage friends who have access to the same guild hall as you. You can invite or guest members to your guild if you're a officer or the leader, and your friend can do the same if they're an officer/leader. You can create teams of up to 8 people/henchmen or just 1v1.

can you please stop talking in complete, well-formed sentences? its preventing me (and others) from saying 'noobl2pthx'

anyways, use pvx if you like, but a good way to pick up interesting builds is watching gvg matches, and then tweaking them slightly. not all gvg builds are appropriate for the smaller format of RA, and RA's nature allows you to play some retarded builds, but it's a step in the right direction.

Don't worry too much. Happens to me occasionnally. Especially in the low end arenas people are very "aggro". So many times when you refuse to suicide (unlike the other players on your team) you get reported. Or when people don't understand your build. Just yesterday for example I was flamed and reported because a Curses/Foul Feast Necro in RA apparently fails.

You may have accidentally broken up a sync team.

Generally, they'll get pissed and report whoever broke them to try to get them into Dishonorable status.

Also, you should NEVER have any empty skill spots on your bar, unless you're a low-level PvE'er who hasn't gotten far enough to get a full bar (That'll take 30 minutes to an hour, depending). Hope this helps.

american GW population isnt exactly the most mature community GW has ever seen either.

you can be reported for anything really, if someone just hates your guts.
e.g. synchers frequently report you together if you "sabotage" their synch and that kind of mutliple reporting actually has a fair chance of giving you the 10 or 15 mins time-out from pvp.

moreover, mind that ever since an update removed the district separation (before that players who enter in e.g. international district would be teamed up with others from international district only; but that was changed because synchers abused that fact in empty districts and the rest who didnt synch just got screwed up), experienced players (i doubt, however, that you were reported by exp players) usually land in a team of very inexperienced players and after that happens for about 10-20 times in a row you should understand the annoyance.

but more importantly, you have to note that some people go into RA to actually make a streak there (and receive a nice amount of gladiator points) and for that you honestly cant count on flare spamming warriors, mending warriors etc., so if you decide to run your own builds you have to take into account you will be flamed for those builds, because i honestly doubt you can create anything strong or effective with the level of experience i predict you have.
my advice would be to closely monitor the people around you, find the better and more exped ones, look at what they run and how they run it, if you wanna learn more about it, read forums such as these or QQ forums (such as this section: http://www.teamquitter.com/phpBB2/vi...8c4b9f 007f02).
however, if you do not wish to improve, then i suppose you should brace yourself for more reports in the future.

Trying to find excuses for people who abuse features of the game makes you just as bad as they are, urania. The report system is there to report people who harrass others, and it's not to harass others. That would be the quickest way to destroy the game even faster.

If you have their names and screenshots, you could always report them through the support site. I still have hopes that ANet is not going to be amused by their unintended use of the system.

if i were in a really bad mood because of lame builds/always getting terrible players and the 10th or so team i had a new player just do something or run something incredibly dumb i'd probably report them too, just out of frustration.

it's mean and wrong whatever, but that's probably what happened. don't worry about it, just try figure out what the 'better' builds are and learn to play them, and hopefully sometime soon you will be able to rage at shitters too!!!

no one's trying to give them excuses, i was merely listing the reasons why people do it. it doesnt make it right, it just explains why it happens.
i was reported by synchers multiple times for screwing up their synch and got the pvp time-out, so what.
the grand majority of people is stupid, unfair and abusive, cant change that.
however, people who intentionally enter with baddie builds just to annoy others should die a death by 1000 paper blades.

Don't worry about it. People are just jerks lately. It's much worse than it was years back, for various reasons I suppose. They will be jerks to you no matter what, as long as you aren't the perfect teammate they have envisioned in their head. Never mind that they are playing on a format that doesn't let you pick your teammates. Just try your best and don't be a griefer.

Keep playing and don't worry about what they say. There are nice people playing among you, but the rudest are also the most vocal.

And don't worry about being banned.
